Experience

EXPERIENCE I took classes at the University of South Florida and got my certification as a tutor last year. I have tutored for many years for many different types of students in diverse subjects. I have tutored Honors College students (along with other university students), special needs students, and international students. I started tutoring in high school for younger children and continued in college. APPROACH I enjoy the material I have learned and helping others understand it too. I find different ways to explain the material so that the student has the best understanding he/she can have. I am patient and flexible. I like starting my sessions by making a plan that is specific to the student's needs. SUBJECTS Biology, Chemistry, Science: I received my BS in biology with a concentration in cell and molecular biology. These subjects were the bulk of what I helped university students with, but I can also tutor high school level science. Psychology: I received my BA in psychology this past spring have have had an intense interest in the subject since my first psychology class. I continue to learn about the newest discoveries in psychology through my research as a cognitive neuroscience researcher at the University of South Florida. English: I came up with lesson plans to teach university international students to speak English through the INTO USF program. I also taught English to Italian children in Naples, Italy for 3 months when I traveled there. Piano and Music Theory: Music has always been one of my passions and, therefore, has led me to excel in it. I started giving piano lessons in middle school and continue to study piano and music theory. My most recent piano class had only 7 students (all upper-class piano majors). Vietnamese and Italian: I studied in intensive Vietnamese and Italian programs when I traveled to Vietnam and Italy. Immersing myself in the culture helped me learn the languages more quickly. ACT/SAT: My score on the SAT was a 1310 (not including the writing section) so I understand the material well and can help others prepare for the exams. Math: Math has always been one of my strongest subjects. I started tutoring other students in math when I was in middle school and continue through college. Study skills and Organization: As a tutor, I have learned to set attainable goals for my students that help push them to do better in their subjects. I believe in teaching students to make these goals themselves so that they will not need someone to help them in the future.

Hobbies

I love sports, playing music, and I'm up for new experiences and adventures! I have traveled around Europe and to Vietnam and enjoyed learning the languages while there. Recently, I've been ballroom dancing, painting, and helping local directors make movies. I just like getting to know other people and having a good time :)
