Hobbies
I love learning. In my spare time, I cook delicious food, hike in nature, practice bass guitar, and connect with friends. Today, I live and work in Oakland CA. The truth is, I was diagnosed with learning challenges when I was younger. Because of that, I know what it feels like to struggle in school. I understand the temptation to believe that we are "bad at math, or science, or english" simply because a student isn't getting the support they need. Since then, I've learned just how helpful the right kind of support can be to finding success. A tutor with confidence, compassion, and patience, can transform the entire experience of learning. Helping students find a positive attitude while working on their homework often motivates them to want to succeed in other areas of life as well. It is vital to a student's physical and emotional health that the thought of learning doesn't always bring feelings of confusion and neglect. It's all too common for students to silently suffer at the back of classrooms. Many students develop negative thought patterns around their studies at an early age and continue to believe them. Years can pass with thoughts of "I can't" and "I'm not good at". It makes me sad to see, because it really is simple. It takes just a few hours a month of focused time to show someone how much better learning can be. That perspective can last a lifetime. I've watched students grow enough to see the pattern. Any student can build confidence, overcome anxieties, and improve. The process simply takes trust and a desire to improve. First the student needs to trust me, that I can help. Then they trust that they can improve. Over time, confidence builds. And finally, the work often feels easy. I also genuinely love to help others, Its why I teach.
